-Limit children’s use of cell phones to emergency only.
-Have a landline for children to use instead.

-Encourage teens to text, use the speakerphone setting or use an ear piece (not blue tooth) when using a cell phone.
-Ideally teens should not use cell phones, but if this is not possible these tips will keep their brains from absorbing as much radiation.

-Avoid having a Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology (DECT) phone in your home.
-These phones continuously radiate high levels of EMFs even when not in use, unlike standard cordless phones. (Regular cordless phones are safer than DECT phones, but they still emit radiation when in use. Ultimately a conventional landline is the safest type of phone for anyone to use.)

-Use a wired internet connection rather than WiFi in your home.
-WiFi continuously emits radiation, even when computers are turned off. If you currently have
WiFi unplug the transmitter when it is not being used until you are able to switch to a wired
            internet connection.

-Use incandescent or LED* light bulbs instead of compact florescent light bulbs (CFLs).
-CFLs are being widely promoted as “green” bulbs that are good for the environment because of the lower amount of energy they use compared to traditional incandescent bulbs, but consumers are rarely informed of the hazards they pose. Compared to incandescent bulbs, CFLs emit strong EMFs, including radio frequency radiation and cancer causing UV rays. They are also prominent contributors to dirty electricity. Consumers are also rarely aware of the mercury content of CFLs. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends that if one breaks, the room should be evacuated for fifteen minutes, then extreme precaution should be taken to avoid contact with the broken bulb and any clothing it comes in contact with should be thrown away. (For more details on how to deal with a broken CFL see the EPA’s webpage at http://www.epa.gov/mercury/spills/index.htm#fluorescent). CFLs should also not be thrown into the garbage when they burn out, but taken to an appropriate recycling center so that mercury does not pollute the earth and water supplies. Incandescent bulbs do not pose any of these problems. Their only draw back is that they use more energy. If you want to avoid these risks, but still want to decrease your use of energy another option is to use light-emitting diode (LED) light bulbs. They use even less energy than CFLs and don’t pose the same risks. They are more expensive than CFL bulbs but they last ten times as long and reduce electricity bills.

*LEDs have not been extensively tested to determine the effects of the blue light that they emit. It is
possible that this light may pose some health risks different from those of CFLs. The most
precautious stance would be to use incandescent bulbs until more research on LEDs has been
                    conducted.

-Keep a child’s bedroom atmosphere clean of EMFs by:
-Making sure that televisions, computers, refrigerators and other
appliances are not placed on the other side of the bedroom’s walls.
-Their magnetic fields will penetrate through walls and reach children.
-Providing your child with a battery operated alarm clock.
-Radio alarm clocks and those that plug into the wall emit high levels of EMFs and
should not be near the bed of a child. If your teen already has a radio alarm clock and
you are unable to replace it with a battery operated one, encourage your teen to keep
the clock on a dresser across the room from their bed to decrease their exposure.
-Keeping baby monitors at least two feet from the sleeping child.
-Avoiding the use of a white noise machine in a child’s room.
-They emit very high levels of EMFs

-Limit a child’s computer and television use to a few hours a day or less.

-Turn off and unplug electronics that are not in use.
-Many electronics continue to use energy and emit EMFs even when they are turned off because of standby mode. By unplugging electronics not in use you may also decrease your electricity bill!

-Use a Stetzerizer microsurge meter and filters to detect and clean up dirty electricity in your home.
-These filters have been used in several studies to improve power quality and health in schools. To install, simply plug them into existing electrical outlets in your home. An average home requires about twenty filters to improve overall power quality. For more information and to purchase Stetzerizer filters go to www.stetzerelectric.com. Filters cost about $35 each, which may seem expensive considering how many a home requires, but in the long run they are very cost efficient. They never need to be replaced and the health benefits received from them may reduce the amount of money spent on medical bills.

-Update old and incorrect wiring in your home and check for ground currents that may be radiating EMFs.
-Hiring an EMF consulting and mitigation firm for diagnosis and mitigation advise is a good way to accomplish this. The consultant would be able to instruct electricians and plumbers on how to improve the situation. Sometimes very simple alterations can bring dramatic changes in overall household EMF levels. Go to the resources page to find links to some US based consulting and mitigation firms or use a search engine on the internet, like google, to look for one in your area. If you are unable to find one in your area you can consult with an electrician, although they may not be aware of all the alterations that can be made to improve your home’s EMF atmosphere.

-If you are looking for a house to rent or buy avoid ones within 350 meters (about the length of three football fields) of cell phone base stations, high voltage power lines and electrical substations. Also avoid homes directly next to step down transformers on power lines.
-To locate cell phone base stations that are near your home go to
                        http://www.antennasearch.com/

-If pregnant or trying to become pregnant:
-Limit computer use as much as possible. Especially avoid using a
laptop, which radiates high levels of EMFs directly into the uterus.

-If using a microwave oven, leave the room after starting it.
-They emit high magnetic fields and may also leak microwave radiation.

-Keep a distance of at least six feet between yourself and space heater
        or electric heaters.
-It is best to avoid use of these all together if possible.
-If you work in a setting with high levels of EMFs, like a computer lab or
near an MRI test chamber ask to be moved to a job in a different
location until after the baby is born.
-Men should limit cell phone use as much as possible to improve
        semen quality.

-Share what you know about the adverse effects of EMFs on children with other people.
